Valentine’s Day! Oh one of my favorite days of the year, designed specifically to show your sweetie just how appreciated he or she is. Of course, we can (and should) be doing this every day of the year, but there’s something just so wonderful about Valentine’s Day.

The history of Valentine’s Day dates back to ancient Roman times, when Claudius II decided that young men made better soldiers when single, and outlawed marriage. St. Valentine saw this as an injustice and performed marriages in secret. When this was discovered, Claudius II ordered St. Valentine to be executed. There is another belief that that St. Valentine himself sent the first valentine to a young girl that he fell in love with during his time in jail, which was signed “from your Valentine.”

These days we tend to celebrate with cards most popularly, roses, chocolates, and small gifts.
